The distinction of various corduroy materials is based on wale count (the linear ridges on fabric are called wales). A higher count of wales makes the fabric light-weight & softer. Corduroy fabric can be made with fibres like cotton, viscose, hemp etc. For stretchability & increasing durability, corduroy fabric is made with a blend of Lycra & polyester.
